What are the Conditions of Votive Sacrifice?
It is the sacrifice that a Muslim promises to God if his wish comes true.
A votive sacrifice is a sacrifice that a Muslim promises to Allah that he will sacrifice if his wish comes true. Votive sacrifice differs from other types of sacrifice because the person makes a vow voluntarily. The conditions of the votive sacrifice can be summarized as follows:
1. Must Be Dedicated:
The vow must be made by the person as a promise to God. A person makes a vow with a statement such as "If this job of mine comes true, I will sacrifice for the sake of Allah."
2. The vow must be connected to a valid purpose:
The vow must be tied to a legitimate condition or event. It is invalid to make a vow for something that is haram or against religion. For example, there may be a legitimate aim, such as passing an exam or being cured of an illness.
3. The sacrifice to be sacrificed must be from sacrificial animals:
The votive sacrifice must be from animals suitable for sacrifice, such as sheep, goats, cattle or camels. In order for the animal to be sacrificed, its age and health condition must meet the sacrificial conditions.
Sheep and goats must be at least one year old, cattle must be at least two years old, and camels must be at least five years old.
4. The vow must be fulfilled:
After the vow is made, the person must fulfill this vow. It is a sin not to fulfill your vow.
5. Condition for Benefiting from Meat:
The person making the vow and his first-degree relatives (mother, father, spouse, children) cannot eat the meat of the sacrificed animal. Meat should be distributed to the poor and there should be no financial gain from this offering. Distributing it to those who are not poor does not fulfill the conditions of a vow sacrifice.
6. Time Condition:
If the sacrifice of a votive animal in Africa is tied to a certain time or event, the sacrifice must be made when that condition is met. A sacrifice cannot be made before the condition is fulfilled.
Since votive sacrifice in Africa is a voluntary act of worship, making a vow is not compulsory. However, once the dedication is made, the sacrifice becomes obligatory.
